Infertility - Who is Responsible?

Female infertility is the result of several factors. Some of them relate to genetic factors or medical conditions (such as diminished ovarian reserve and sexually transmitted infections) and some are the result of our way of life and our preferences - mainly the age factor. The diagnosis will also include lab tests (including hormone testing and FSH and estrogen measurement) and imaging.

Whilst diagnosed, several methods of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) will be suggested. The most prevalent procedure is IVF - In Vitro Fertilisation.

IVF: Fertility Treatments

IVF is a process by which a matured egg is collected from the ovary is then fertilized by sperm outside the womb, in a lab. This procedure will include several stages including pre-treatment consultation, artificial stimulation of the ovaries to increase the egg production, egg collection (usually performed under ultrasound guidance), embryo development examination and the embryo transfer to the patient's uterus. The combined procedures are known as an IVF cycle.
