Chin Augmentation plastic surgery, also known as Mentoplasty, is performed in order to improve the look of the chin and lower jaw. This cosmetic surgery can be done both for aesthetic reasons and medical reasons if one needs to fix their chin or jaw bone.
The results in the chin augmentation surgery are achieved either by manipulating the jaw bone or by using prosthetic implants. During this surgery an incision will be made under the jaw bone or near the connecting joint of the ear and jaw. At this point the surgeon will remove excess tissue from the chin area and re-design the chin. If there are implants involved, the surgeon will perform additional incisions, wherever needed, to insert them and then sew them up and apply bandages.
Chin augmentation recovery usually takes two weeks, as the bandages will be removed after a few days and the stitches after about 10 days. The hospitalization is short, only 24 hours post surgery.
