A breast reduction surgery, also known as mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure performed in order to reduces one's breast size. This is a procedure performed mostly for aesthetic reasons on women who want to improve their self image and general look.
Usually women who aren't satisfied with their beast shape will get this plastic surgery done. This includes mainly women who breast fed or women with asymmetric breast sizes and shapes.
There are two accepted methods for surgeons to perform the incision, the first being a vertical incision from under the nipple to the base of the breast, the second includes an additional horizontal incision under the breast, creating a shape of an anchor. Once the incision is done, the surgeon will remove the excess skin and fat from the breast and sew it up. Once this is done, the chest will be wrapped in elastic bandages. A breast reduction surgery lasts about two hours.
A man's breast reduction is much shorter and includes just a little suction of the fat cells from a small incision made under the nipple.
The breast reduction surgery requires a hospitalization of 24 hours and you are then released. A week of rest is needed and then you can return to your normal activities (not including sports which will take a little longer).
