Many women suffer from low self- esteem because they feel their breasts are too small, not attractive enough or simply do not suit the shape of their body. Breasts are usually not identical as one might be slightly larger than the other.
In other cases, pregnancy, child birth and breast feeding affect the breasts and causes them to lose their shape. Unlike other parts of our body that can be shaped by exercising, breasts cannot. Changing their shape can be accomplished by plastic surgery. This can lead women to decide to have breast augmentation, also known as a breast enlargment surgery and reshape the size and shape of the breasts.
The same applies for breast reduction, also known as Reduction Mammoplasty. Breast reduction surgery is performed to remove excess breast fat or skin. Breast augmentation or reduction is designed to create a breast size in proportion with your body.
Breast enlargement surgery is sometimes simply called a 'boob job' and can be performed at any age after puberty. The surgery will not affect the ability to breast feed.
Breast enlargement surgery means increasing the size of the breasts. By increasing the breasts size, the breasts shape improves and the surrounding skin stretches and obtains a younger look.
During breast enlargement, a silicone implant is inserted into the breast through a small incision made underneath the breasts. Breasts implants come in different size, shape, texture and fillers. Breasts implants can be filled with saline or silicone gel.
The silicone implant is used because of its natural sensation and tender touch. The saline implant is a silicone elastic shell containing saltwater or saline. The saline or saltwater are quite similar to our own body fluids.
The implant shape can either be round or anatomical shaped like a tear drop. The round shape implant provides more capacity while the anatomical shape appears more natural.
The type of implant used, its shape and size are your choice and should be discussed with the plastic surgeon.
In order to achieve the desired outcome, it is very important you learn about the available options and consult with a reputable plastic surgeon, experienced in breast enlargement. Today, even during your first consultation, you will be able to examine the different breast implants options and visualize the outcome (using a special bra or computer imaging).
Breast implants are measured in cc's and not by cup size. It is important to choose a comfortable size, not too large (as it might damage the breast tissue), suitable to your chest measurement and its shape.
Usually, breast enlargement is performed under general anaesthetic. When you undergo a procedure under general anaesthetic, it is important to notify your doctor of any health conditions you may have.
The plastic surgeon will create a small incision underneath the breast tissue. The incision may be performed in one of the following locations: the natural crease beneath the breast, the armpit or around the edge of the areola (the circular area surrounding the nipple). The breast implant size and shape will determine the incision location.
When the incision is made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the implant. Following the surgery you will have stitches (regular or dissolvable) and a bandage. Breast enlargement surgery takes about an hour, a few additional hours are necessary for your recovery. Usually, this procedure has no complications and the patient can go home at the same day. If requested, overnight stay at the hospital can be arranged.
During your recovery you will receive antibiotics for a few days. Bruising and soreness are a normal side effect and will be treated with pain medication. The breast area may also be swollen.
It takes about a week to resume your normal activity. During this week it is recommended to avoid physical activity and to rest. The full recovery will take a few more weeks.
Boob jobs are performed on a daily basis in many different hospitals. Your success is to have the breasts you have always dreamed of. Our success is to make sure your surgeon is the most competent and experienced surgeon that will provide exactly what you wanted.
